Another good day in the garden with 9 species including a couple of unexpected visitors :

19. Common Blue - female on Marjoram

Brimstone, male - (2 visits), first since 24 July
plus :

Holly Blue - female on Ivy leaves
Meadow Brown - on Marjoram and Buddleia
Small Tortoiseshell - 3
Peacock - 11
Large White - 10
Small White - 6
Green-veined White - 1 only

Silver Y Moth - 2

The last week or two of August saw double figures reached/maintained re Small Tortoiseshells, Peacocks and spp White. Painted Lady made 3 more appearances but Red Admiral stayed away. Otherwise the occasional late Gatekeeper turned up plus Holly Blue, Comma and a solitary Meadow Brown.
Silver Y moths were frequent.
It's been an excellent month for Small Tortoiseshells, Peacocks and Spp White.

Having been so abundant throughout August, Peacocks seemed to disappear at the start of September. Painted Lady and Speckled Wood put in occasional appearances in the first week.
Double figure counts of Small Tortoiseshell, Large and Small Whites lasted until the third week of the month, before decreasing rapidly by 30 Sep. A couple of Commas were still present on 23 Sep, nectaring on Sunflower, Buddleia and Marjoram.
