Thought I'd start another list on this section.

Latest I've had are Orange Swift and Red Underwing.

Cheers

John

Aug 15th 2012:

Went outside to fill the water tubs for the moggy and birds. The one outside back door had a moth floating in it, I was sure it was dead, but thankfully decided to get it out just in case. I put my finger in the waterand under the moth and lifted it out, then took it inside and put it on a sheet of kitchen paper! As I tried to get it off my finger the moth moved  and then I put it on the sheet and left it on the window ledge to dry off. An hour later it was off the paper and relaxing in the sunshine. :D

Don't know much about them but if it lived another day I feel my kindly act was most worthwhile.

Although this section doesn't cover spiders [ I hate the big 'uns] I did exactly the same for a tiny spider that had fallen in the bath water, and it recovered from it's ordeal and lived another week. :D

I award myself a gold star

Regards

John

June 19th:

At 23.00 while sat outside spotted a moth settle on the ? tree I fetched the camera and took a few snaps. Later tried to ID it, as yet I haven't for sure but think it's probably a Brimstone. It never opened it's wings. It looks to be yellow on top and a creamy underneath. Will get back when positive.

Does anyone know where I can learn first-hand more about ID-ing moths, I have a field guide but there are so many to learn. Any advice lads?

Cheers

John

05.03

Spotted a moth at the top of bedroom door jamb, took some photos and looked at the guide and the only one I can see it matches is Angle Shades but it says they come out in May, got a mate to confirm it at a later date.

It's colouring reminds me of the camouflage that the bombers were painted in during the war and the edge of its wings remind me of the Comma butterfly ragged. Does anyone think I'm right?

Regards
