I have deliberately refrained from commenting on this subject as I am old enough in the tooth to hope that common sense will eventually prevail - and it has. I found that some politically based comments were, to say the least, unhelpful. Hopefully, we have not alienated the many land owners (Tory or otherwise!)who do huge amounts for avian conservation in this county.

Birds of prey are my fav birds,so maybe Im biased in their Favour, but Ive not read any one else"s comments yet before submitting this,i put it on my facebook page when the news broke,i thinks its horrible that Buzzards have to suffer so Landed gentry can go out there, rear even more pheasants(incidently Pheasants are not a native species)to blast more of em!out the sky.
Its a fact Buzzards take some pheasants but studies have shown around 2% .Weve had Goshawks virtually eradicated from the Peak District by Gamekeepers with old fashoned ideas, and now this,at least according to J>C>,Common sense has prevailed!!.
Regards,
Rog.

Stuart, its only because people have shouted and made a fuss that this daft idea has been nipped in the bud. If everyone had refrained from comment, Buzzards nests would be being blasted from tomorrow.

Clearly the shooting lobby has its own lunatic fringe as do most communities of interest from landowners and farmers to birders and conservationists. I guess we all have to be self policing in that respect and I think the shooting lobby have shot themselves in the foot by letting this daft idea get out of hand.

I suspect most landowners and farmers would have winced at this proposal and they can't be surprised it has generated so much adverse publicity for shooting. It would be good if they would come out and say that. On balance buzzards do them more good than harm by helping reduce rabbit numbers.
