An hour's walk along the edge of Nocton Wood to Wasps Nest and back produced:
1 Cuckoo
2 Whitethroat on territory
6 Blackcaps
4 Chiffchaff
1 GSW
1 summer plumaged Fieldfare in a ploughed field, feeding with Mistle Thrushes.
On the return journey we nearly ran over a young male Sparrowhawk which sat in the middle of the road. Fortunately we avoided the bird which flew into a roadside tree where it was mobbed by the local Swallows.
