Thayer's present until just after 5.00pm in the same field (the one with the white tankers) it was in first thing this morning (per Phil Hydes post above), before the gulls spooked and they flew off. It's getting around a bit but had previously been at Elsham CP until just after 3.00pm.

Cheers

Grahame (with Pete Haywood)

Ps There's a really helpful map by Dave Bradnum on BirdForum (accessed under the 'Thayer's Gull in Lincs' thread in the Rare Bird Information forum) showing all the locations it was seen today for those who would still like to have a go at connecting with this bird.

I saw great views of it today, with my father, Rob Carr. Flew over our heads - well, someone 3 metres away, anyway. But, Thayer's Gull, Kumin's Gull and Iceland Gull, are they all the same species? <snip> I'm getting two stories from two sources. :

Hi Alastair.
Check out the links below to a few more stories from several reputable sources.
It will keep you busy for a while and at least answer a few of your questions. Good luck

Nobody saw it on the ground that I heard. Was seen overhead at least a couple of times
Also seen was an iceland gull again high over the tanker field about mid-day, a caspian gull, a marsh harrier and a short eared owl

A lot of conflicting reports about the bird yesterday, saying that people were just ticking anything with missing primaries or tail feathers,no reports what so ever today, looks like it may have moved on,but i guess they havn't been pumping slurry over the last couple of days.

no sign in an hour late afternoon yesterday but people told me they had seen twitchers on the A15 that day so assume people had been looking but no reports-- there were about 200 large gulls there late afternoon but very jumpy

Think your right. On Birdforum. All reports From visiting birders were negative. The fact there were several birds with missing primaries and tail feathers didn't help matters either. Could be still around on the Humber, its worth a look.

Hi Alastair

Alastair Carr wrote:
1. Thayer's Gull and Iceland Gull are considred, in this country, sub-species (at the moment). The hydrid being Kumlin's Gull. An excellent example is the Carrion and Hooded Crow.
:

The BOURC currently treat Thayer's as a subspecies of Iceland Gull, along with Kumlien's Gull. Whether Kumlien's Gull is the result of introgression of eastward-expanding populations of Thayer's Gull into Iceland's range is as yet unclear and more sampling at the colonies is required to understand the relationship between the three forms.

Alastair Carr wrote:
2. Thayer's Gull and Icelend Gull are seperate species. Kumlin's Gull is just a race of Iceland Gull.
:

The AOU currently treat Thayer's as a separate species and Kumlien's as a race of Iceland Gull. Recent molecular work has indicated that Thayer's and Iceland may not even be sister taxa.

dunno, you'll have to wait...
