Tonight whilst enyjoying the tail end of a glorious day the sun sank and met the Reserve that it had flooded all day. A circle, a half circle, a slither and then it was gone.
The memory of it remained spread over the sky above and the docile lake as the temerature dropped.
Five snipe took to the air as though unable to wait any longer for the night to arrive and then the buzz reached my ears. An excited look up and the sand martin passed overhead, zigzagging towards the cooling orange horizon. Six birds, six travellers and the safety of a reedbed roost.
