Came across a female ruddy duck this afternoon in the Lincoln area
Only my second one of the year

Are global conservation priorities lost on UK birders? If we were talking about Mink would people shelter the last individuals such that the population could rebound?

........surely not the possible start of yet another pro Ruddy Duck/anti Ruddy Duck Lincs Bird Club web conflict debate. : the third at least in the last few years. The last one unfortunately left some battered and uneven-tempered individuals lashing out.

Can we now draw a line here ?

Fair point.

But, think long and hard about the evidence-based science that stands behind the cull and balance that up with the notion of shooting ostensibly pretty ducks whose presence in a foreign landscape is no fault but our own.

Like it or not, conservation in human-modified landscapes requires killing stuff. And that is never pleasant.
