3 hours sepnt around the reserve today. The ferruginous duck was still presnt on the water body opposite the old visitor centre.

Also a juv Artic skua over the same lake gave good views, wonder if it was the same bird seen the other day and has just been flying around the humber for easy pickings???? both new birds for me and my dad.

Other highlights were

Red kite over. My first at far ings
Scaup female on ness pit. Another first for me at far ings

Plus the usual

did you manage to get any photos of the skua Anthony; there have been a few reports on the upper Humber in the last week and it is not clear how many birds there have been or if they all refer to the same bird hanging around

Pictures were blurry and distant sadly but the from what i can pick out from the terrible set of images is that the bird had white tips on all of its primaries, one wing having a little more white on. Also on the under wing one wing is fairly hidden on all the photos but the other underwing is about 33% white mainly on the primaries but what I can see of the other wing it doesn't have any white on the primaries. Interestingly this is the same wing that has more white on the upper wing to. Also had about and inch or two of black tip to its tail.

Hope that information can help out.

This artic skua seen by Mandy is different to the one I saw I will post a heavy crop of a bird and put a link up. Mandy's bird was nearly completly white on the underparts mine was just at on the primaries underneath.

Ferruginous duck still present today on the pit to the right of the approach road, but flew to the Pursuit Pit around 15.00.
