Yes the Car park was open yesterday (Thurs) however if you want to walk the whole way round they have shut off the gate by the sail club so when heading north you'll need to drop down the hill before the complex.

Showed well this morning (Sat) by the water tower and along the east bank.
Also very obliging were two little stints
In the corner by the farm was a female red crested pochard
One swift over the water tower

Thanks to all club members for their information. I saw the bird at the week-end. What a star performer. It gave every view possible for hours on end. It seemed totally unfazed be all the attention it was receiving (must be the American in it). I love terns for their elegance and aerial ability, but this one is a real stunner. It was virtually feeding non-stop with just brief rests which it conveniently took on the concrete side (not the prettiest reservoir I have seen!). It must be feeding up ready for southern migration. The place was excellent for the birder, nice big and open car park, with excellent walk ways and paths around the perimeter. We went to the coast afterwards to see if the buff breasted sandpipers were still visible. We tried both Saltfleet and Rimac with no luck. But we had the best, cheapest Sunday lunch at the New Inn Saltfleet, so it was a superb trip to our favourite birding county.
Kind regards
Steve and Sue Andrew

Further correspondence with Covenham:

I did try to explain to a few of the watchers about the car pak but was met with a fairly frosty response. We had had word through my work that there was a group of ‘travellers’ moving through this end of Lincs and of course we did not want them in the bottom car park.

I don’t know if you can spread the word but if people do park in the top car park and we cant find them when we leave the gates HAVE to be locked. A couple of guys found themselves locked in earlier in the week. Members did their best to locate them but they were unable too. Thus they got locked in.

Should you get something rare again drop me a line, the clubs are struggling in this climate and I’m sure we be happy to make a few cups of tea and coffee and see if we could make a few quid for the clubs.

Kind regards

PAUL RICKETT

Ski Club Chairman
