Well, they say 3rd time lucky and so it proved this morning. I must have picked up Andy's post soon after he had put it on the web and I had parked at the Hartsholme Drive/Westwood Drive road junction in Swanpool (every bit of 3 or 4 miles from BBH) by 10.20.

No more than 5 minutes later, I had arrived at the Catchwater Drain bridge and was (finally) enjoying the sight of a Spotted Flycatcher feeding from the Elders and Hawthorns there. I saw just the one.

I located an Ash Tree S of Catchwater Drain bridge, at the edge of a field across from Westwood Drive,( possibly not the one Andy mentioned), but had no joy there. Even so, an enjoyable and successful visit - -thanks to Andy for the tip-off. :D =D>

Chris,
Re Spotted Flycatchers, take heart.........the bonanza could be just around the corner, datewise, but a bit further afield, locationwise. Both Russell Hayes and Paul Neale had Spot Fly at Gib. Point today (see photos) and numbers could build up soon. In 2009, for example, there was an influx of 14 there on Sep 4th peaking the following day with 39 and with 23 still present on the 6th.......a veritable cornucopia of Spot Flys. :D :)

Good luck for tomorrow, Chris and Andrew, and if it helps, I understand that the Spot Fly photographed by Russell and Paul today, was in Hawthorns (as per photos) by Sycamore in the West Dunes.
