No mention of the report at Gib on here? Was it genuine?

Yes Graham - a good record - seen by John Shaughnessy. A painful dip for most Gib listers who missed it by a couple of mins!

I thought there must be a good reason you were blotting it out from your memory Kev! -- its a bit like albert I keep forgetting it ever happened then someone goes and mentions it

I even remember the last Gib record May 21st 1973 not from seeing it but staying there in July 1974 I seem to recall meeting one of the observers -- I think I was told by George ?? the warden that it was one of the first birds seen on the then newly constructed Mere

Now imagine also dipping White Tailed Eagle on your patch in the same spring - also by a narrow margin !

Out of all the three spring megas here - I got the marsh tit though !!!!

Anyway, todays skywatchers were amply rewarded by more good raptor passage including several masrh harriers and Mntagues Harrier through, a Rough legged buzzard that was up and down the reserve for about an hour (just begging for someone with a decent camera to snap it up) and an osprey through this afternoon - per NAL and JPS.

Additionally, again lots of hirundine and passerine migrants moving south - including another serin and several crossbills.

Cheers

Kev

To follow up on the history of the Mere - it also hosted white-winged black terns in spring and autumn of 1973, upon its completion, and there has not been a positive Gib record since !

I am pleased to report that the finder of the Rosper Road Collared Pratincole has now
contacted me - he is Tom Lowe who was working in the area.
I will find out more when Tom completes the form that I have sent him.
