On 25 Jan, "Birdguides" reported 6 Waxwings on Deacon Road (near Outer Circle Road) opposite the UPS Depot there.

On 26 Jan, I had to go into Lincoln anyway and I spent two stints at the stakeout (1.40 - 2.10 and 3.10 -3.30pm) but NO Waxwings to report.

I returned today (Thu ) at 12.10 and by 12.25 I was watching c75 Waxwings feeding on the 3 or 4 ornamental berry trees opposite the UPS Depot.

Deacon Road is behind the Tesco Superstore on Wragby Road .....then go past the petrol pumps to Deacon Road, turn right and the UPS Depot is only 50 yards away. Parking is possible with care on the road. The berry source is still VERY large and with luck the Waxwings will stay around for a few days.

Also there :
10 Redwings
2 Fieldfare
and a Charm of Goldfinches.

Regards,

Freddy

PS. Nothing to report from the Lincoln Gymnastics Centre stakeout (off Doddington Road, Lincoln) 09.30 - 09.50, Wed 26 Jan., where c35 Waxwings had been reported on LBC Sightings on 25 Jan. - seen on 24 Jan.

Glad you saw them, Greg. I always try to put Waxwing news out ASAP so that others may also enjoy the spectacle; and what a spectacle it is - especially when they arrive on the berry tree and start feeding : it's like an avian smash and grab raid, smashing into the branch and grabbing the berries before dashing off again. The whole flock so often seems to operate under a dynamic group time pressure...... 'Quick, quick! Hurry up! Now let's be off!" - a marvellous spectacle, indeed. :D :)

Regards,

Freddy

Waxwing has been a ' bogey' bird of mine, believe me Freddie, i had given up on ever seeing one, let alone 40+ in one spot ! I have been birding for over 40 years and have always been in the wrong place at the wrong time with that particular bird, sometimes you just need a bit of luck...and help.

Cheers Greg
