I managed to enjoy the good weather today too and it was nice to see all the water bodies back to normal. Teal (55), shoveler (8), pochard (18), tufted duck (24), gadwall (11), G C grebe (3) and coot (12) decorated the Pits. The calls of teal from Pursuit Pit caught my ear as I walked towards the Reserve and at last the eerie silence of previous weeks was broken.

The 2 male, with 4 female goldeneye, on Ness Pit were almost rutting in head on display at times, pure pantomime.

The 16 brent geese were mobile today between the River and the pasture to the south of the Reserve. Twice during my walk around they passed overhead and I also caught up with them drifting on the River just off Chowder.

A skein of 115 pink foot also passed NW high over the River.

Don had seen the bittern carry out 3 flights over Ness Pit (great picture Don) before I also saw it flying above the footpath alongside Hotel Pit.

I too managed to see both male and female marsh harrier.

A buzzard was perched in the hawthorn to the north of ness pit before it was flushed by a few magpie, it headed towards teh Blow Wells.

On my way through Barton Reedbed a couple of redpoll were in the birch trees feasting on the catkins.
