re tags.jpg Rob Hardy's photo in the album of a juv MR with Blue right White left it looks like the bird is from the Isle of Sheppey scheme http://www.swalewaders.co.uk/ -- if it is possible to read the tags and they look like 30? to me then the bird can be reported to the web site above -- see also http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?p=1903125

This would be a most interesting movement for a juvenile so hopefully Rob can provide the full details --

Have already been on the case, it is one of theirs and is the furthest north reported.

Ring Number FP84934 Tag white/blue 30
Ringed and Tagged as a pulli at Elmley Brickworks (51.22'N 0.45'E) on 16th June 2010, Probably a male. One of a brood of five
Date Location Coordinates Sex Observer Days
02-Sep-10 Grainthorpe Haven N.E. Lincolnshire Robert Hardy 78
03-Sep-10 Tetney Marshes Lincolnshire Dave Bradbeer

Yes this is definitely one of our tagged Marsh Harriers, looks like number 30, the ringing details of which are attached. Could you possibly let me now either the OS Grid reference or the co-ordinates of the locations of the two sightings. The project to wing tag Marsh Harriers is in its second year and has been set up to gather data on the dispersal and return of Marsh Harriers that breed on the Isle of Sheppey and Stodmarsh NNR both of which are in Kent. We have had several sightings but yours is by far the furthest distant. Excluding local sightings, we have had one to Icklesham/Dungeness, one on the Isle of Wight, three in Essex and one at the London Wetland Centre.

Please continue to record and wing tagged Marsh Harriers especially if the number on the tag can be identified.

Thanks, all the best

Rod Smith
