Mediterranean Gull 13 (3 summer adults and 10 2cy), 2 x 2cy Caspian Gulls the first of the year here, 5+ Yellow-legged Gulls, the Ring-billed Gull briefly at 21:15 before all the gulls suddenly flushed for no obvious reason and it never reappeared, a 2cy Great Black-backed Gull and an adult little Gull took the week's gull species tally to 11 species not bad for the time of year --

July 1st -- 10 Meds (4 adults) 3 colour ringed birds so far , Green AJJJ White E120 and Red ?? and three colour ringed Lesser Black-backs that I managed to read -- a Grey Wagtail and 50 Golden Plovers ---plus bolt head was still present

Red ringed bird appeared to be from Poland -- Green ringed bird Germany -- White France of Belgium -- just sent them off

As directed by Freddy, news from Barton this evening as follows;

The Bonapartes Gull put in another - albeit very brief, appearance when it was spotted on Chowder Ness by Craig Nimick ast 7.05 p.m. I had just arrived and missed it!
Fewer other gulls around with just a couple of first-summer Med's the only ones of interest.

Spent a good 8 hours this afternoon and evening looking for the Yanks,but didn't get a sniff,but managed to record at least 17 Med Gulls which comprised 5 Adults,8 1st summer's and 4 2nd summer's,which included 9 birds on view at one time,impressive stuff!.

strangely in 100+ hours in the last 2 weeks there has been just one 3cy Med (second summer) and that was on June 26th - not a lot today just 5 2cy Meds and the red ringed adult

Must have counted the same 1 four times then. .

still lots of gulls but with neap tides not using the Chowder site so regularly --

Details of a Med Gull colour ring sighting at Chowder Ness by Barry clarkson ended up in my in tray.

Barry had the bird on June 29th colour ring - WHITE 3A47
It was ringed in Belgium on 14/05/2000 and visited Snettisham in 2000 and Blackpill in 2001. Then it was mostly seen in Belgium before turning up in Lincs this year.
We have also had a Polish colour ringed Med Gull at Gib recently and I'm awaiting ringing details. So not only Homo Sapiens from Eastern Europe turning up here!!

also a Polish ringed adult at Barton last week Red left PKP? -- I assume this must be different to the Gib bird --

Of the colour ringed Lesser Black-backs seen at Barton in the last 10 days origins are Walney Island, Gloucestershire, the Thames basin and 2 from Norway the locations of which will be interesting with regard to racial ID --
