1 adult Common Crane in field back of the flashes this evening. Also there was a drake Garganey,1 Black-tailed Godwit,4 Greenshank, 1 Wood Sand still,2 Snipe, 1 Yellow Wag. 1 Little Egret and 12 Swift.
Late afternoon at nearby Saltfleetby St. Clements bird reserve were 8 Whimbrel and 6 Wheatear.

geoff i had either crane or stork sp at tetney between lock and village rd. it was a flying cross by the time i stopped the car, bins out it had completely disappeared in a almost cloudless sky i only saw it as it turned through tinted glass but the profile was flat winged, neck and legs fully extended and could only be stork or crane sp that was around 13.45 hrs cheers

It could well have been the same bird.
The Crane was still in the same field today showing well at times plus 1 Wood Sand but no sign of the Garganey.

Geoff, I was leading a Ramblers walk through Manby yesterday evening and saw you at the Flashes around 7.20pm phoning something through. With 18 noisy people tagging along I resisted coming to chat, but heard the news of the crane through Birdguides 30 minutes later! First thought was 'bugger'!

Anyway, Julia and I saw it this morning just before it flew, then relocated it on the Great Carlton-3 Bridges road, but at a distance. Also saw a marsh harrier from that location.

Also visited the reserve at Elm House Farm as we were in the area. Should be good when it matures a bit. A pair of wheatears were the only things of interest. Called in at the Prussian Queen after, had 2 pints of Skidbrooke cider, after which everything was a blur!

Which is how birding ought to be!

Hi Geoff, glad you saw it OK. I didn't see you with the ramblers,none seemed to have binoculars. I'll admit I was a bit alarmed to see you all coming along. I thought,I hope they don't go towards the Crane. I'd already fended off two other walkers that had planned to walk all around the pool, by showing them the Crane through my scope. It appears it is becoming a popular walk with the local dog walkers.
I had a text from Barry Clarkson tonight to say the Crane was still there and now 2 or 3 Wood Sands
