Lovely few hours this morning in the sunshine!

1 Cetti's Warbler - very vocal, loud bursts of shortened call
10 Bearded Tit
2 Bullfinch (m)
15 Fieldfare
1 GS Woodpecker
6 Redwing
4 Reed Bunting
Usual Tit sps, Robins, Wren etc
2 Willow Tit
2 Water Rail

Quite a few Common Darters and two Migrant Hawkers on the wing, also one Tortoiseshell, one Small White and one Painted Lady butterflies

Could well be a female Cetti's Mandy, we've got one not far from me that sounds similar to what you describe.

there have been up to 3 males singing in the western pits for the last 8 weeks; one male gives a stuttering song and then a full repertoire but the others are more faltering and I would suggest are first-winter males getting their song together as can often be heard from juv Willow Warblers and Chiffs in the autumn; as far as I know females only give the distinctive chink call but will repeat it and run a few together in alarm --
It looks like Cetti's have made a big leap forward this autumn with birds turning up in several sites north of the main breeding areas and it would be interesting to log all the records; the increase in numbers is somewhat surprising following the bad weather last winter that had a severe impact on some of the UK Cetti's population.

Yesterdays bird was in the area of the pits opposite Ness Farm on the track that runs from the small bridge to the ford mainly in the hedgerow that borders the reeds. It called on and off for about half an hour whilst I was in that area maybe every 5 mins or so. I got a fleeting view of the bird at one stage.
