On a working party at the mere, with Grahame Hopwood and Dean Nicholson, clearing the reeds from in front of the hide (a job we do each autumn) and putting up more "goalpost" perches in the mere.

Juvenile Osprey seen briefly before starting work, Dean had inadvertantly flushed it from roosting in birch tree earlier. There are obviously 2 birds in the area as I saw an adult earlier in the week.

Within ten minutes of stopping for dinner an adult Water Rail was right out in the open on the cut reeds.

Also seen:-
1 Green Sandpiper
1 Common Sandpiper
2 Kingfishers
Covey of 12 Grey Partridges on beet field

A Black-headed Gull was using one of the new perches within half an hour of our finishing work.
