At Messingham today:

Wood Warbler heard & seen briefly in tree canopy @ 12.05 but no sign after in blustery (& then wet) conditions.
4 Black Terns through
1 Green Woodpecker
1 Cuckoo
1 Garden Warbler

Wood Warbler???,never been seen there,one hell of a record,are you completly sure chris?as you say brief seen,and heard.

Evening Roger,
I heard the bird sing 4-5 times and finally located the bird & saw it briefly high in the tree canopy. The bird was quite active & hard to pin down in the blustery conditions. I couldn't relocate the bird after this.
I've plenty of experience of the distinctive song on visits to Wales, Bolton Abbey, Wyre Forest + a singing coastal migrant at Kilnsea
Wood Warbler also at Spurn yesterday with birds still arriving on the south coast (4 at Portland yesterday)
I seem to recall GPC had a singing bird in the county last spring. Presumably these birds quickly move on to their breeding grounds.

Hi Chris,
Excellent Record,the only birds ive had round scunny was 2 in twigmoor in may(years ago),down the path first turning in left from greetwell crossroads,where the log blocking the entrance used to be,might still be there,incidently worth checking again??,not really supposed to go down it,but thats where the redstarts could be heard and seen which i did see and hear their song,few years back,but i saw the wood warblers close up and really enjoyed them and their song,the way they move their body when singing,let john harriman etc know,all got em and enjoyed,
