First I've seen this summer over the town this pm, though doubtless someone else has already seen them earlier!

When did they arrive at Baumber then?

I was away in Suffolk for a short break slnce monday. I saw my first swifts of the year at Minsmere on tuesday, by the way also twitched John Badley there on thursday!. On friday evening on our return was greeted by a screaming party of 5 around the small breeding colony at the house. Circa 10 days later than last year.
The swallows in contrast have arrived in good time and have quickly settled down to nesting. The house martins, however are very lacklustre, hardly visiting their nests. No doubt the dry weather is making building repairs almost impossible.

I also saw Swifts over Boston on Thursday on my way home from my voluntary work for Pilgrim Hospital Radio, and on Wednesday whilst walking to the May Fair.
