With the recent appearance of a Swallow at Frampton Marsh, I decided to check along the South Forty Foot Drain for any early arrivals of them and Sand / House Martins. Alas, I found no hirundine activity (despite my being as keen as mustard to see them), but did see the following:

Possible early Sedge Warbler calling from reeds

Great Crested Grebe - 3 pairs in 'pork pie' resting posture
Mute Swan - 2
Grey Heron - 1 over
Cormorant - 1 flying over

Shelduck - 2 (first time I've seen one on the drain)
Tufted Duck - 1 pair
Wigeon - 1 female
Canada Goose - 10 on banks
Greylag Goose - 5

Coot - 8
Moorhen - 3 calling from reeds
Redshank - 2 (another first sighting of one on the drain)

Goldfinch - plenty about
Greenfinch - 2
Great Tit - 4
Blue Tit - 6
House Sparrow - 30
Starling - 15
Blackbird - 10
Wren - 2 calling
Robin - 2 pairs courting each other
Pied Wagtail - 3
Dunnock - 3

Collared Dove - 7 displaying
Woodpigeon - 9 also displaying
Magpie - 5
Jackdaw - 3

Common Gull - 1
Herring Gull - 4 in immediate vicinity, 3 flocks overhead
Black-headed Gull - 25

Grey Partridge - 1
Pheasant - 1

ADDITIONAL: 3 rabbits.
