Wildlife Watch Meeting at Whisby NP this morning produced flight views of the Bittern over reeds at the back of Grebe Lake (near to Orchid Glade?), but not a lot else - water is now 99% frozen.

And, we came across 14 Waxwings in bushes beside the A46 at the bridge over the A46 south of Thorpe on the Hill (Fosse Lane NGR SK908643) - I guess these must be the Witham St Hughs birds - we saw then at 12.45pm anyone watching Waxings at Witham St Hughs at that time?? We watch the birds for about 10 minutes before they flew off Lincoln way?

Andrew

No sign of Waxwings at Witham St Hughes between 09:15 and 09:50 this morning.

The Waxwing group was still at Witham St Hughs this afternoon (Saturday). I initially spent 15 minutes near the W St H Roundabout but only Fieldfare and Redwing there. Then, following gen from two other birders, I watched the Waxwings from 2.45pm well inside the W St H Estate area. They were feeding on berries in a garden at the bottom of Thyme Walk, as viewed from the bottom of Sorrell Road. The two birders had seen 14 there but my maximum was 11 - a short 15 minute visit only, though, (up to 3.00pm) as I was picking my wife up in Lincoln at 3.30pm!

Regards,

Freddy
