We have just watched 220 or so bats leave a neighbors house roof !
On the edge of Hartsholme Park, he tells me they have been in his roof several years. Last year he contacted a bat group, who use a bat detector and identified both Pipistrelle and Long eared Bats together.
How good is this record ? And how unusual is a summer roost of this size ?

The following night we counted 236 leave, from 9.10pm onwards. They all appeared to be the smaller Pipistrelles. At around 9.45pm a Tawny Owl arrived and sat on the apex above the hole ! Looks like he had arrived for a quick takeaway bat meal !!
