Hi everyone

I am posting this message purely as a means of gauging potential interest in the formation of a bat group covering the North Lincolnshire area. I am currently a member of East Yorkshire Bat Group and am undergoing training at the moment for a conservation (roost visitors) licence under Tony Lane the bat groups trainer. It was quite apparent to me when I first became interested in bats that Lincolnshire bat group was not especially accessible to me particualrly as it is focused more around central and southern lincolnshire. I am currently studying in East Yorks so joined the bat group there as a means of fitting it around my other commitments. Taking into the consideration the size of the county of Lincolnshire a single bat group I think can never hope to encompass membership from throughout the whole area, however I may well be wrong and would appreciate feedback from any Lincs bat group members who have a different experience.

Tony my trainer seems very keen on establishing a bat group for North Lincs as on a number of occasions recently he has received calls to attend grounded bats in the Scunthorpe area, probably due to a lack of available bat workers/carers in this part of Lincolnshire. Apparently a group did exist up until a few years ago based at Normanby Hall and I for one certainly think that the formation of a new group would be a very positive step.

The idea is very much in its infancy and I am really just looking for keen individuals who would be interested in potential action to set up a group. Ultimately I am simply looking to expand the range of bat work in Lincolnshire, hopefully widening our knowledge of their activites in Lincolnshire and contributing to their conservation.

If this sounds of interest to you please either post to this thread of pers msg me so I can get an idea of numbers. If you would like to contact me directly pls use my personal email joe_mould@hotmail.com.

Rgds

Joe

After an interesting meeting with Lincs bat group members last night I have been converted. I hope as do the rest of the group i'm sure that increased membership in the North will aid in providing better coverage of the area, which from what I heard last night is beginning to happen already. I would advise anyone with a keen interest in bats based in North Lincs to contact the group and get involved.

Cheers

Joe
