18 March 2014
Moth trap (15watt actinic lamp over Skinner Trap) out in garden overnight produced 33 moths of 8 species including twin-spot quaker, small quaker, early grey and chestnut.

47 moths of 21 species noted with trap out in garden overnight (first outing fro MV lamp this year).
Included:
Lime hawk
White ermine
Poplar Kitten
Yellow-barred brindle
Dark twin-spot carpet
Cabbage
Nutmeg
Sandy carpet
Mottled pug
Phtheochroa rugosana

Had MV lamp out in garden overnight and produced about 100 moths of at least 40 species including beautiful golden Y, Lychnis, broad-barred white and 3 elephant hawks. Still very few micros turning up.

21 June 2014 with MV bulb produced at least 77 species including a bumper catch of 29 elephant hawks. Also noted small elephant hawk, sycamore, plain golden Y, Anania perlucialis, beautiful hooktip, peach blossom, swallow-tailed moth and scarce footman.

Actinic lamp out overnight in garden (17/07) produced about 150 moths of 50 species including:
a rather smart looking micro Recurvaria leucatella (which could be a new VC 54 record?) plus
Aethes rubigana
Dwarf cream wave
Drinker
Dingy footman
Scarce footman
Broad-barred white
Small blood-vein
Clay
Diamondback 2
Dusky sallow
Knot grass
Plus, found a vapourer caterpillar in garden this morning, another weird-looking one with various bits sticking out!

Actinic lamp in garden overnight produced about 54 species including Common Lutestring and Buff Footman, both new for the garden.

MV bulb out in garden for a couple of hours (due to rain forecast later in in night) produced at least 45 species including:
Ruby tiger 5
Magpie 4
Scarce footman 2
Hedya ochroleucana 1
Phycitodes binevella 1
Limnaecia phragmitella 2
Diamondback 5
Coronet 1

Plus, at dusk in garden on 25th July found the smart looking micro Acleris cristana.

Actinic lamp out overnight (30th July) produced about 110 moths of 47 species including:
Gold spot 2
Silver Y 1
Bordered pug 2
Scarce footman 1
Copper/Svensonn's Copper Underwing 1
Elephant hawk 1

Also Vapourer moth found on house window today (1st Aug).

Rosy Rustic
Chinese Character
Common marbled carpet
Angle shades
Brimstone
Vine's Rustic
Copper Underwing
Spectacle
Most numerous were large yellow underwing and square-spot rustic.

Actinic lamp overnight produced about 68 moths of 27 species including:
Black Rustic 1 (one of my favourite moths)
Sallow 1
Angle shades 4
Pale mottled willow 5
Burnished brass 2
Grey pine carpet 1
Engrailed 2
Common marbled carpet 1
Red twin-spot carpet 1 (a bit late?)
Vine's rustic 1
Turnip moth 1
Lunar underwing 1
Euzophera pinguis 1
Most numerous were lesser yellow underwing and square-spot rustic.

18th September
Actinic lamp in garden overnight produced about 69 moths of 24 species including several migrants.

Dark sword-grass 2
Black rustic 1
Silver Y 1
Burnished brass 1
Frosted orange 1
Pale mottled willow 2
Centre-barred sallow 1
Pink-barred sallow 1
Most numerous were lunar underwing and large yellow underwing.

25 Sept
Actinic in garden overnight produced about 65 moths of 20 species including:
Black rustic 1
Mallow 2 (just didn't want to be photographed!!)
Angle shades 3
Pale mottled willow 3
Broad-bordered yellow underwing 1
Sallow 3
Most numerous were lunar underwing and beaded chestnut (15 of each)
Very few micros now.

No death's-head hawk yet!
