WHILE OUT WALKING LAST WEEK I CAME ACROSSS MY FIRST EVER BADGER SETT. WHAT SURPRISED ME WAS HOW LARGE IT WAS AND THE AMOUNT OF DISTURBANCE TO THE SURRONDING AREA. THERE MUST HAVE BEEN BETWEEN 20-30 EXIT TUNNELS SOME USED SOME BLOCKED UP WITH LEAVES.AT THE ENTRANCE HOLES VAST AMOUNTS OF SOIL WAS PILED UP WITH SOME SUPRISING LARGE ROCKS IN IT. I WILL CERTAINLY BE RETURNING ONE EVENING TO EXPERIENCE MY FIRST EVER BADGER WATCH ,ANY TIPS?

Hiya Ricky,

Badger watchings hard work this time of year unless you already know the sett well, so can predict the time they emerge. The badgers may only come out for a couple of hours and so you could be waiting until midnight!

Best to put off watching a new sett until spring when they should emerge around dusk. Stay downwind with your back against a tree and wait. Its often better to look through binoculars even at close range as they gather the light so help you see better.
