Due to pheasant rearing and regular shooting, I haven't been ringing there in the winter for a couple of years. I went today and ringed 43 birds including 22 Lesser Redpoll and 11 Bullfinches! The last time I ringed that many Redpolls there was when the White throated Sparrow turned up. We all live in hope!

Mention of the White Throated Sparrow reminds me that was what first attracted me to birdwatching in the first place. It was a matter of walking in the right place at the wrong time or was it the wrong place at the right time. Anyway enjoyable times!

Perhaps you can remind me what year that was?

Chris, it was ringed at the beginning of December 1992 and remained until March the following year - where have nearly 15 years gone!
