I've just returned from the above which was from 9th-13th. With over 20 ringers staying at the Obs prospects looked good but the weather meant nothing was trapped from 12th onwards but nearly 600 birds were processed prior to that. As mentioned by others, there were hundreds of hirundines flying low and over 100 of both Swallows and House Martins were caught, mostly feeding in the West Dunes. 99% of both were juveniles with only one control! There were good numbers of Willow Warblers, Whitethroats and the ubiquotus Dunnocks mist netted when wind allowed. Following last years success trapping Terns at high tide, the wind prevented any attempt this year. Somewhat disappointing but as bird welfare is paramount, it couldn't be helped.
