Ten controlled Redpolls caught at Seacroft on 25th October were clearly part of a movement down the East Coast. We have recieved details of four of them today, which had all been ringed at Spurn Point, including one that had been ringed just 3 hours earlier. Although only 73km as the Lesser Redpoll flies, one would be hard pushed to get from Spurn to Seacroft by car in under 3 hours !

You would be hard pressed to get through Hull in an hour in my experience Alan -- There seems to be quite a few flocks of Lesser Redpolls this winter in no so regular areas, on weedy field edges etc and it would indeed be interesting to know where they originated as Lincs breeding number still seem to be virtually non-existent

Graham,
I've had a look at the county ringing recoveries/controls from 2008-2011 and there have only been four Lesser Redpolls from outside the county. They were from Spurn, Surrey, Staffordshire and Highland Region so that's not much help. However, they are certainly on the increase at garden sites so we might get some better info. in the future.

We've controlled 20 Redpolls so far this autumn winter, 12 on the coast (all British and 4 from Spurn Point) and 8 inland at Bourne including one from Belgium and one from the Netherlands - I'll post details when I get some information. Good numbers now coming to feeders in Bob sheppard's garden, but only one Common Redpoll so far.

Have now got all of the Lesser Redpoll ringing details for those controlled at Seacroft, Skegness, in October. The ringing details were:-

Four from Spurn Point all within 10 days (one within 3 hours)
Cambridge - 2011
Cumbria - 2011
East Sussex - 2011
South Yorkshire - early 2012
Norfolk - early 2012
Cumbria - early 2012
