Post subject:  Redpolls

The remarkable run of foreign ringed birds caught in Bob Sheppard's garden in Bourne continues.
Last week a Blackbird and Lesser Redpoll both from Holland were caught in the same ringing session, this week a Lesser Redpoll bearing a Brussells (Belgium) ring was netted.

Coastal ringing stations often get foreign controls but an inland garden rarely produces quality captures so consistently.

To date we have caught Siskins ringed in the Czech Republic, Holland and Belgium; now two Lesser Redpolls from Belgium and a Common Redpoll from Norway. The list of birds ringed at Bourne and then subsequently recovered is equally impressive with Siskins recovered in Holland x 2, Belgium x 2, Sweden and 12 to Scotland as well as several Lesser Redpolls recoveries around Britain and a couple of Common Redpoll recoveries. We also received details last month of a Goldfinch that was retrapped in France.
