We had arranged a full days ringing some weeks ago with four visiting ringers. We were lucky that the easterlies came at exactly the right time. 622 birds were ringed in the day including exactly 400 Goldcrests, 40+ Song Thrushes, Blackbirds and Redwing, 25+ Robins, 18 Brambling etc etc. A single Woodcock, Yellow-browed Warbler and a Belgian ringed Blackcap were the highlights. When we had a chance to look up, there was a continuous Thrush/Finch passage throughout the day but a solitary Peregrine was the only raptor seen.

A second day on 17th with less ringers (and less nets) was proportionally productive with 240 birds ringed. The ratio was similar to Saturday, the highlights being 12 Blackcaps and a Norwegian controlled Robin. It was another spectacular day for common passage migrants bolstered by excellent views of a Short-eared Owl and 2 Sparrowhawks giving their own Red Arrow impression!
