Post subject:  Colour-ringed Herring Gull

Whilst at the Iceland Gull site in Boston with Phil Espin on Mon I saw a 2cy Herring Gull with a yellow plastic ring on its left leg reading T:516. I received this today

Dear John,
Thanks very much for this great sighting. T:516 was ringed by Ben Herschell in Montrose on 17/07/2011. It was caught by hand and aged as juvenile. This is the first sighting of this bird.
Both Grampian and Tay Ringing Groups are involved in this project, so far most of our movements have come from gulls ringed in Aberdeen. This is our first significant movement from a Montrose ringed bird, and also the greatest distance we've had travelled so far by a juvenile Herring Gull.
Best Wishes,
Euan Ferguson
Grampian Ringing Group

John
