Post subject:  Whilst Walking This Afternoon....

A long walk around the fields and drains west of Boston today produced the following:

Sparrowhawk - 1 hunting just north of Westgate Wood
Kestrel - 1 male hunting just south of Westgate Wood
Little Grebe - 1 on South Forty Foot Drain
Great Crested Grebe - 1 pair on South Forty Foot Drain
Grey Heron - flying around fields and drain adjacent to Westgate Wood
Cormorant - 1 over

Swallow - probably 20 or so everywhere, and a cracking close-up of one preening!
Sand Martin - 3 flitting over South Forty Foot
House Martin - 1 with Sand Martins
Sedge Warbler - 4 in reeds along South Forty Foot

Wren - at least 5 calling within Westgate Wood
Skylark - 7 calling at least
Goldfinch - 10 at least
House Sparrow - 25
Chaffinch - 1 female in Westgate Wood
Song Thrush - 2 along Sleaford Road
Blackbird - many everywhere, lots of them singing their pretty ditties :D
Robin - 1 calling from along Hammond Beck
Pied Wagtail - 1 in field next to Westwood Lakes complex

Red-legged Partridge - 3 pairs
Pheasant - usual lot in fields
Magpie - plenty around
Rook - medium-sized flock in field close to Westgate Wood
Carrion Crow - 1

Black-headed Gull - lots
Greater Black-backed Gull - 2 hovering over new Westwood Lakes complex
Herring Gull - group of 10 over
Common Gull - 1

Mallard - 20
Mute Swan - 4 on South Forty Foot
Tufted Duck - 2 pairs on South Forty Foot
Usual Collared Doves and Woodpigeons

MAMMALS - lots of rabbits
BUTTERFLIES - Brimstone, Peacock, Small Tortoiseshell, Cabbage White, Common Blue, Speckled Wood
