Many thanks to the two birders who pointed out the garganey as we were walking down the path back to the car. Far side of the lagoons seen from 50 metres or so up from the main car park towards the sea bank. Seemed to be on its own.
Other highlights:
Wheatear - beautiful male up on the bank, then obligingly standing for a long time by the main path
Meadow pipit - pair on the fence by the main path
Reed bunting - female, on new gate (plenty of those!) on the sea side of the bank *AFTER THE REPLY BELOW FROM PAUL, AND CLOSE SCRUTINY OF A COUPLE OF GUIDES, I'M CONVINCED THIS WAS A FEMALE LINNET
Black tailed godwit - only spotted a couple, one very ginger
Twite - couple of flocks swirling around over the scrapes and pools *NOW IDENTIFIED AS LINNET

Lovely sunny afternoon. Be glad when the ribbon's cut and we can get into the hides!

APOLOGIES FOR BEGINNERS ERRORS - I'LL BE MORE CAREFUL IN FUTURE. REALLY GRATEFUL FOR THE HELP I'M GETTING FROM OTHER MEMBERS - THANKS

P.S. No doubts about the wheatear and garganey (thanks Paul) though - made my day!

Hi Stewart

It was me that pointed the garganey out to you, nice to meet you at last!

Also present last night at Frampton:
White Wagtail - 2, with 2 Pieds (but no sign of the Water Pipit, although a Water/Rock called once)
Black-tailed Godwit - 10
Marsh Harrier - 2 males

I have to say that there havn't been any twite on the scrapes for a week or more now, but there are still c50 linnets moving about. It would be a good late record if they were twite, did you get a good look at them?

Cheers,

PF

There we go - caught out as a beginner yet again!! I will eventually learn what might and might not be there! I'm sure what I thought were twite were those self same linnets you saw - thanks. Memo to self - GET A GOOD LOOK AND BE SURE. Wish I'd seen those wagtails............

No problem at all Stewart, always glad to help. Birding is hard, so don't worry about making mistakes. Everyone does!

The drake Garganey was still present today (Tue 14th) on the southern scrape, viewable from the road.

What scrape is the southern scrape?

Hold on until Friday, Garganey!

As you walk down the road, the first large wet area on the left is the reedbed (although there are no reeds in it yet, just lots of grass), the second large wet area is the southern scrape. The other two scrapes are not viewable from the road.

I'll post a map of the site on here in due course.
