Just back from seeing the Ouzel - it is a very smart bird! Couple of points of interest - I was stopped twice by the Police - who took my name and address. I guess birding on a RAF base isn't a good idea with a long lens..... they seemed a bit jumpy, almost as if something/and or someone special was or was about to be on site?? Also, as you enter the village from the A17 there is an overspill carpark for the sports centre on the left - I would suggest using this? It is only a short walk to the bird from here - parking up on the road for a long period wouldn't be a good idea. Andrew ![]() |

I had vg binoc and telescope views of the Ring Ouzel at the stake-out (across the road from the main Church - there are three churches at RAF Cranwell if one enquires!). The bird was still showing well up to 3.50 pm at least (when I left). I didn't have Andrew's problems but parking is VERY limited. There is a barred-off entrance to the main Church opposite the stake-out and I wasn't approached by the Authorities for parking there, but I might just have been lucky. Regards, Freddy |

Showing well to 09.40 am before it flew West into the adjacent avenue of trees. When I left at 10.30 it had not reappeared . I see on Birdguides that it has been showing well later on this morning. Certainly worth a look. A nice bird, and a good start to the Spring. |

Following reports of its still being around, I returned to RAF Cranwell this afternoon for a "second helping" (1.30 - 2.45). The bird was in view more or less continuously but it did spend c30 minutes perched in the lower branches of a tree. As I left at 2.45 it had flown up into another belt of trees by the Sports Centre car park. Nice to meet up with Hugh Middleton, Russell Hayes, Alec Parker et al. I look forward to seeing the (web) photos, Russell. Regards, Freddy |
