10:30 to 15:00 The Fen, Neville Woods and the Pit. Nice to feel the sun on ones bones again Dave, I counted 79 mute swans little owl 2 in the building the other side of the road to the swans barn owl 1 with a vole n its claws about midday - up by Neville Wood kestrel 3 fieldfare just 1 lapwing skylark a few singing willow tit green woodpecker 2 great spotted woodpecker 4 buzzard 1 nuthatch 1 redshank 2 along the Witham all the normal wildfowl on the pit other than goldeneye and mallard nice view of a stoat swam across a drain then came within a couple of yards then vered off as it noticed me didn't see the marsh harrier or the stonechats which were supposed to be in the area at the Neville Wood end of the fen |

Nocton Fen 15.30 to 17.30 on 06.03.2009 2 Little Owl in the barn by the swans 1 Buzzard hunting from the barns just before the swans 1 Barn Owl hunting close to the road by the bend (accompanied by a Kestrel!) 1 Peregrine on the tall chimney of the Sugar Beet Factory 1 male Hen Harrier passed over the fields near the Factory heading towards Wasps Nest. 2 Shelduck in a wet patch by the pits. Would someone be available to take me around Nocton Fen some time? I'd be able to get to Metheringham by bus or train, but would need picking up from there.... |
