Returning from Deeping Lakes this afternoon around 4 p.m. noticed a barnacle with some greylag on the Welland - high bank on the road back to Spalding. When I stopped to have a closer look found out there were two young (presumably hybrid, but very barnacle-ish) swimming with a greylag, with an adult barnacle on the bank. Then noticed a bar headed goose with two other greylag! A little bizarre, and my apologies if this has been reported before. I assume both must be escapees. By the way I didn't post on the escapee message board as it appears not to have been used since 2007. If this is of any interest I can identify the spot with more accuracy.

Hi Stewart

The Deepings area has always been home to nasty escaped/feral geese - helps we have several hundred Greylags more or less resident in the area.

Other past delights have included Snow, Emporer, Blue-winged and Lesser White-fronted Geese on the escape list; wild species have included Dark-bellied Brent, White-fronted, Pink-footed and Egyptian in recent years.

Thanks Josh. I'm living and learning! Beautiful bird though, the bar headed - bound to win a greylag's heart any day now.....
