2 Oystercatchers today @ the settlement lagoons Eagle Lane, Thorpe. 10.15 March 2nd. Both birds between lakes with the Lapwings.

1 bird had a extreme orange chest, can anyone advise on why this would be.

This is only my 2nd posting so still new to all this, any advise would be more than welcome.

Regards Mark

Hi Mark,
Did you notice if the bird had any colour rings on its' legs? Several projects include colour rings and then colour dyeing the breast. There are sites available (can anyone help with the website?) where the origin of the bird can be found bythe colour ring combination on the legs.

Hi Stuart,

No I didn't notice any colour rings on it's legs, but the chest was so orange so could only be a dye of some sort. It would be really interesting if anyone knows of any other info.

Thanks Mark

Both birds still there today but have moved, now between the 1st and 2nd lagoon and can be seen from behind the barrier to the entrance.

The Orange chested bird looks like being a BTO thing were over 100 Oystercatchers was ringed and stained yellow from the Burry Inlet, Wales. They have asked for any sightings to be reported back which I have done. This bird is Orange through not yellow and is the only confusing thing, so any other info would be a help.

Thanks Mark
