Post subject:  Black Brant - Freiston Shore 09/02

Hi

Had a brief foray down the wetland trail today. One adult Black Brant was with the large brent flock on the HMP North Sea Camp sheep fields. There have been a lot of brents on these fields in recent days, with an unconfirmed count of 7000. The Black Brant was most likely a female, as the collar was quite narrow (but still complete!).

Also:
adult Pale-bellied Brent in the same flock
Lapland Bunting (2) along the wetland trail (per Paul Sullivan).

There seems to be more juvenile Brents around recetly as well, although i havn't done any counts to be sure of this. Maybe there has been a hard weather movement from the Continent, which also brought the Brant here? There are certainly a few more Song Thrushes around in strange, exposed places on the marsh recently.
