Lovely afternoon, but cold - virtually 100% frozen water on the meres, so nothing on them. Mute swans - 3 adults, 9 juveniles Mallard Tufted duck - 14 Wigeon - 35 Gadwall - 1 Egret (Little!) - 1 Goldfinch - 20+ Greenfinch - 2 Long tailed tit - 8 Great spotted woodpecker - 1f Chaffinch - 10+ Little grebe - 2 Fieldfare - 20+ Barn owl - 2. 1 hunting the river bank far west of the reserve, other at the east end Coot - 3 Magpie - 3 Cormorant - 1, flying over Also golden plover in fields the far side of the river Heard - moorhen, wren, green woodpecker |
