Post subject:  Waters Edge, Barton & Worlaby Carrs 3/2/09

I enjoyed a few hours there this morning, sunny and quite mild. Lots of birds singing :) A pleasure to be out and about :)

8 Redpoll
c50 Siskin (they were everywhere and very confiding)
1 Green Woodpecker
2 GS Woodpecker
Few Gadwall
Few Greylags
Lots LT Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit etc
4 Wren
4 Robin
8 Shoveller
1 Stonechat (male)
4 Bullfinch


Then Mick& I went to Worlaby for an hour this evening, bright but bitterly cold:

4 Common Buzzard ( inc 2 pale ones, seen together, 1 perched in tree and the other beneath it on the ground)
4 Marsh Harrier
2 Barn Owl (1 being mobbed by a Kestrel)
4 Kestrel
6 Yellowhammer
Lots Curlew, Lapwing and Fieldfare
1 Goldcrest
4 Meadow Pipit

+ 1 Stoat

2 female Roe Deer on way home plus another Buzzard

Had fantastic view of Bittern flying straight towards Ness hide before settling in reeds about 20m to the right. (about noon)

Also
36 shoveler doing a food circle in front of the hide.
1 goldeneye (m)

2 goldeneye (1m1f) on Hotel pit.
