A positive explosion in numbers of visiting House Sparrows is happening in my garden in the last few months - this time last year, about 4 or 5 House Sparrows visited per day.

Now, there's a posse of anywhere from 12 to 15 visiting all at the same time per day! I've never got through bags of peanuts this quickly, and I've had to buy another peanut feeder to reduce the queuing on the garden trellis!

The House Sparrows that visit my garden of late only raid the peanut feeders. For the past few years been getting an average of between 6 - 20 a day, where as some people in the county rarely get any. We are obviously giving the birds what they like.

On my way to and back from Blacktoft yesterday afternoon saw about 20 at Amcotts and another 25 near Adlingfleet [Yorks].
