I guess there are many places along the Lincs coast which offer good opportunities to see the current spectacle of passing Little Auks, but today I decided on Huttoft Car Terrace as it offers the comparative luxury of being able to view from the car. Between 11.30 and 14.30 I logged the following………
184 Little Auk 15N 164S and 5 sat on the sea. None of these birds were further than 300 yards away with several flying over the beach!
150+ Kittiwake all S
2 Teal S
3 Gannet 2N 1S
2 Shelduck N
39 Common Scoter all directions!
1M 1F Goldeneye N
60 Starling in off
1 Blackbird in off. This poor bird flew in low over the waves in a fierce northerly wind. Landing next to the car clearly exhausted, I could almost imagine it saying ‘thank **** for that!’ before hopping over the sand dunes for some much needed rest.
Other birds at Huttoft Pit as per Colin and Sheila’s post below but there were c70 Wigeon in the same field with the Whooper Swans when I was there.
Regards
Grahame
