After enjoying all the Little Auks at Chapel Point yesterday we decided to return today for more of the same. Between 09:15 and 12:30 we saw:
Little Auk 34 N and 30 S
Common Scoter 6
Wigeon 3
Kittiwake c35
Woodcock 1 in off
Long-tailed Duck 2
Purple Sandpiper 1 with 4 Little Auks
A Little Auk was seen to collapse onto the tide line and appeared to be too exhausted to fly off. As there was a quad bike and many dogs on the beach, Russell Hayes rescued the bird and Sheila took it under her wing and gave it some TLC. Unfortunately the bird later died. We noticed that the bird was severely underweight at 120 grams and Alan Ball informed us that it should weigh approximately 170 grams.
also a quick look at Huttoft Pit:
Goldeneye 1
Long-tailed Duck 1
Ruddy Duck 4
Whooper Swan 10
Regards,
Colin and Sheila with Russell Hayes
