Sunday 26th March

This afternoon I came across a foraging flock of Buntings in an untrimmed drainage ditch adjacent to a hedgerow. Yellowhammer and Reed bunting were present but the flock was predominantly Corn Buntings and my estimate was that there were c30. Some were singing in the spring sumshine. A single Snipe was also flushed as I drove up a grassy track on the border of Baumber, Edlington and Wispington parishes. A separate flock of Linnet were also in the same area.

This constitutes the largest number of Corn Buntings in one flock I have seen in my area for around 10 years so really made my day.
