Last year, 11 Jan, I walked The Drift SSSI from Hilltop Farm to Sotby Airfield with Ian Evans of Natural England. We flushed a pure white bird which elicited an exclamation of surprise, "Little Egret", before we both realised it wasn't and that it was a buzzard. We carried out a similar inspection of the site yesterday, 30 Jan. Ian told me that he had seen the same bird again this winter and sure enough it appeared close to Three Queens Plantation, calling frequently, where he had seen it recently. Possibly it has established a territory there.
For anyone visiting that area it is at least worth keeping a look-out for.
