Deeping Lakes From the hide and the main pit Long-eared Owl - 3. Largely obscured but close together on the main island and noted preening on several occasions. Goosander - 13 (8m + 5f) Goldeneye - 36 (10m + 26f) Pochard - 13 (8m + 5f) Tufted Duck - 134 Shoveler - 24 Mallard - 25 Wigeon - 28 Gadwall - 45 Cormorant - 20 Pit by access track Snipe - 8 Greylag Goose - 10 Egyptian Goose - 1 Mute Swan - 3 Pochard - 1 Tufted Duck - 16 Shoveler - 6 Wigeon - 51 Gadwall - 53 Teal - 57 Cormorant - 6 Grey Heron - 1 Coot - 60 Common Gull - 1 Black-headed Gull - 51 General sightings around part of the reserve included a female Bullfinch, Song Thrush, Goldcrests and 2 Buzzard Deeping High Bank Great White Egret - 1 at c.TF 244,143 Two groups of swans were located feeding in fields to the west of the Welland. The first at c.TF 234,140 consisted of 92 birds which included; Mute Swan - 49 Whooper Swan - 43 (2 imm) The second group in fields by the minor road to Deeping St. Nicholas at c.TF 221,141 consisted of 114 birds which included; Mute Swan - 89 Whooper Swan - 25 (6 imm) So giving a total of 68 Whoopers in the area. Also noted along the river were; Goosander - 1m Tufted Duck - 30 Little Grebe - 5 Great crested Grebe - 1 Cormorant - 1 Greylag - 17 Mute Swan - 8 Buzzard - 1 Kestrel - 2 Unfortunately I failed to locate the Long-tailed Duck Matthew |
