With hefty nor westerlies blowing birds into the North Sea I thought it might be worth a look at the Sea this evening. Not really except for a steady passage of Terns south. Comic Tern - 300+ Common Tern - 20 Arctic Tern - 24 They were mostly passing in groups of 20-40 and too distant for positive ID. However, those close enough to ID showed a mix of Arctic and Common. Sandwich Tern - 35 Gannet - 3 Nothing else!! |

I was watching the sea from Millenium Ridge at Gib from 1830 until dark and had similar. Many were fairly close as they came in to roost on the estuary. I counted 1600 Sandwich, 294 Common, 34 Arctic, 148 Commic, 44 Little Tern and 3 "probable" Roseates, their ID not 100% as they were in bright sun and a bit too distant. The sea was otherwise quiet with only 8 Gannet north and a Grey Heron south. A big juvenile Peregrine caused chaos for 10 minutes. Regards Nige |
