Hello, Highlight of the morning was a male Stonechat on the area south of Scartho cemetery. Showed well for 5 or so minutes before flying west towards a ditch with tall growth. This follows a tip off by Dave Bradbeer (thanks!) of a Stonechat this weekend nearer Weelsby Woods. This species is obviously moving through our area based on several recent reports here. Regards, Josh EDIT: A few record shots (AKA naff photos) on my blog: http://jjf-gy.blogspot.co.uk/2015/03/1st-winter-stonechat-m-in-grimsby-this.html |

The posts about stonechats are very interesting. Anyone know where they have come from and where they are heading to? Last autumn, whinchats were in unusually plentiful supply. Is there something significant happening in the chat world? Incidentally, thanks Dave B - I saw the female last week at Buck Beck, Cleethorpes. It's such a long time since I had seen a stonechat that I had forgotten what a superb bird it is. (Unfortunately, I didn't see the male bird located by DB in the nearby horse field on the same day) |
