Post subject:  wing-tagged Marsh Harrier

a juvenile Marsh Harrier at Alkborough on the 9th had green tags on both wings with NT in black -- it would seem from the net to be a Norfolk ringed bird but no response as yet; around the Humber the last week has seen a massive departure of fledged juveniles dispersing before migration with few birds now remaining near nest areas; this tagged bird and 3 others in recent years 2 from Kent and one Norfolk show that juveniles can and will move long distances in what we would assume to be the opposite direction to their autumn migration prior to leaving the UK; it could be related to increased wintering and searching for potential wintering areas of searching for future potential nesting areas; it would be interesting to know where the Humber harriers go on their walkabout after fledging maybe to Northern England or Scotland a dangerous area for any raptor --

And it is Hen Harrier day I trust that everyone on LBC has signed Mark Avery's petition and added support -- really should be on our front page!!!
